Escape the Roaring Twenties: The Speakeasy Raid
An incredible print-and-go escape room style lesson on the Roaring Twenties Era!
It’s 1929, and your students are partying at a New York City speakeasy when the alarm goes up: Prohibition agents are on the way!
To find the secret way out, they’ll have to learn about six of the biggest stories of the Roaring Twenties.
This exciting “escape room” style lesson is a simple print-and-go lesson that doesn’t need locks, boxes, or complicated prep. Just print the readings, set up six stations around the room, and let the escape begin.
The lesson includes 6 readings to use as stations, where students learn about:
- Prohibition
- The Jazz Age
- The Harlem Renaissance
- Flappers and the New Woman
- Cars and Consumer Culture
- The Stock Market Crash
Each station has 4 questions that ask Who, What, Where, and Why & How. The answers become “clues” that lead students closer to the secret exit.
Students fill in their answers on a special worksheet, one letter per box. Certain letters are highlighted, and once students finish a station, they unscramble those letters to reveal a piece of the escape route.
After visiting all six stations, they put the pieces together to discover the password and the secret way out before the raid!
You’ll also get printable and Google Slides directions, Google Doc versions of the readings and worksheet, teacher notes, a complete answer key, and tips for running the lesson.
