McCarthyism and the Red Scare

This is a brief video on how Senator Joseph McCarthy came on the national scene after a speech on February 9, 1950 in West Virginia. McCarthy claimed that there  were 205 communists working inside the US State Department. Most Americans were so shocked that they failed to question whether McCarthy's claim was true or how the knew.  The era of McCarthyism had begun.
