Unit 2 Overview
Three countries, one connected continent
This is the second unit in my World Geography curriculum. After building their geography toolkit in Unit 1, students put those skills to work on the region they know best: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Over the course of the unit, students explore the physical geography of the US and its five regions, plan a road trip across the country, study Canada and Mexico, and investigate the Deepwater Horizon oil spill as a real-world case study.

Day-by-Day Flow
How the unit runs
The unit plan guide includes lesson plans for every day, so you always know which resource to use and how. Here's how the unit moves from start to finish.
Days 1-2: The United States
PowerPoint lessons with guided notes and maps cover America's physical geography, then its human geography and what makes each region of the country unique.
Day 3: Road Trip Project
Students map out a road trip through all five regions of the US, stopping at landmarks, bodies of water, major cities, and cultural attractions along the way.
Day 4: Deepwater Horizon
A case study on the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico shows students how one disaster hit both the environment and the economy of the Gulf Coast.
Days 5-6: Mexico
A lesson on Mexico's landforms, bodies of water, and regions leads into an activity on the theme of movement, from the US-Mexico border to medical tourism.
Days 7-9: Canada & North America
Students learn Canada's provinces and geography, build an infographic on North America's human geography, and finish with an escape room across the whole region.
Review & Assessment
A review game, online readings with audio, and a current event activity prepare students for the editable unit test.
